Session #3:
First of all, review the darkest areas to be sure the shapes are clear and fully painted in – correct if necessary. Adjacent to the darkest sections are the “middle darks” – next in line to be painted.
HINTS: Some greens lighten up more easily by using Hansa Yellow Light (or Cadmium Lemon, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Yellow Light) with the Phthalo Blue Green Shade and perhaps a little Zinc White. There were many different challenges in this value range – from texture to complexity. Remember that acrylic dries DARKER and lighten accordingly. You can’t really tell what colour mixture you have until you add a little Z/White
If you need soft edges, use less paint and rub with your finger immediately. Make a “lump” of colour, then vary the edges of it as you paint – a little more red here, a little more blue there, etc.
